Am I Recommended? / AI visibility vs SEO
Buyer education

AI visibility and SEO measure different things

SEO asks whether your website can be found and ranked in search. AI visibility asks whether an AI system includes your business when a buyer asks who to choose.

They overlap, but neither replaces the other

A business can have technically strong SEO and still be absent from AI-generated recommendation shortlists. The reverse can also happen: a brand may be well known enough to be mentioned by an AI system even when a specific page does not rank highly for a traditional keyword.

What are you measuring?Search positions, traffic potential, crawlability, keywords, links and technical performance.Whether an AI provider names or recommends the business for buyer-style questions.
What does a “win” look like?Higher relevant rankings and useful organic traffic.Entering the shortlist when a buyer asks AI who to consider.
What evidence matters?Search-engine crawl/index signals, content quality, links and many other SEO factors.Clear public evidence about the business, category, reputation, proof, differentiation and relevance that an AI system can use when forming an answer.
Can the result change?Yes. Rankings move with competition, algorithms, location and content changes.Yes. AI outputs can vary by provider, model version, wording, public evidence and time.

Why traditional SEO tools keep appearing in AI visibility conversations

Many established SEO platforms now include brand monitoring, AI-search tracking or generative-search features. That is useful, but it can blur several different jobs into one category.

SEO suitesBroad platforms for keyword research, site audits, backlinks, competitive research and rank tracking.
AI-search monitoringOngoing tools designed to track brand mentions or visibility across AI-generated answers over time.
Point-in-time recommendation auditA focused check of whether buyers asking defined questions are being shown the business now, who appears instead and what evidence gaps are visible.
Fix / optimisation workThe content, proof, authority and technical improvements undertaken after a weak measurement. Measurement itself is not the same thing as optimisation.

Where Am I Recommended? fits

Am I Recommended? is designed around a simple buyer question: “If a customer asks AI who to choose, do I appear?”

The current product does not attempt to replace a full SEO platform. It runs buyer-style questions across OpenAI and Gemini, records whether the business appears, shows recurring alternatives and highlights public-evidence gaps worth investigating.

That narrower scope is deliberate. A small business owner should be able to understand the result without buying an enterprise SEO suite or learning a new dashboard first.

When to use each

Use SEO analysis when…You need to understand search rankings, crawl/index problems, content opportunities, backlinks, local SEO or organic traffic.
Use AI visibility analysis when…You want to know whether AI systems are actually including your business in recommendation-style answers and who is being shown instead.
Use both when…AI-assisted discovery matters to your customers and you want a complete picture of traditional search plus generated-answer visibility.
Do not confuse either with a guaranteeNo legitimate audit can promise a permanent AI recommendation or search ranking from one change.
